The MentorSHPE program facilitates mentoring relationships that support personal and professional growth and development. The program is designed to expand networks, give participants knowledge and insights, and build skills for both mentors and mentees. Mentoring matches work together to define expectations, determine goals and a corresponding action plan, and outline milestones to track progress.
Mentoring Moments, or one-time mentoring, provides a focused opportunity for networking and learning experiences. Mentoring Moments help participants learn job related skills, gain cross-departmental knowledge, explore internal career paths, and build stronger networks — all with no minimum time commitments.
Launched in Fall 2023, and continued in 2024, this program focuses on a new group peer mentoring track for SHPE professional members. Participants were provided the opportunity to take the Latino Career Assessment and were grouped by self-choice into similar or mixed career level groups, SHPEtina groups and groups with similar LCA skill development goals. Groups are connected for a 6-month period with the goal of a group meeting at least once a month to give accountability, encouragement and support as group members work on their own individual goals.

The Future GRADS MentorSHPE Program facilitates one-to-one mentoring relationships that connect graduate school applicants with mentors to guide them through the application process. Mentees receive guidance on the application process from those who have experienced the graduate school application process themselves. We hosted two cohorts this past year. One in Spring 2023 and another in Fall 2023.
